Summer is packed with adventure, fun in the sun, and plenty of outdoor time. However, this season also brings sunburns, insect bites, and dehydration. It’s essential to be prepared for everything. Here are some natural home remedies to manage some of those “not so fun” situations that summer can throw at you.

Sunburn Relief

  • Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel is cooling and soothing for sunburned skin. Apply directly to the affected area. Give our Back to Earth Aloe Vera After Sun a try!
  • Coconut Oil: Helps moisturize and heal sunburned skin. Apply after the initial heat has subsided.
  • Cucumber: Place cool cucumber slices on sunburned areas to reduce inflammation and provide relief.

Insect Bites Treatment

  • Tea Tree Oil: Has antiseptic properties and can reduce swelling and itching. Apply diluted tea tree oil to the bite. Try our Back to Earth Tea Tree 100% Pure Essential Oil.
  • Baking Soda Paste: Mix baking soda with water to form a paste and apply to insect bites to reduce itchiness.
  • Honey: Natural antibacterial properties help heal the bite and reduce itching. Available at Back to Earth is Stawns Honey local to Vernon, BC, or try our Back to Earth Sweet Pea Healing Balm to help soothe any bug bite.

Heat Rash Remedies

  • Oatmeal Bath: Add a cup of oatmeal to a lukewarm bath and soak to soothe irritated skin.
  • Aloe Vera: Its cooling properties can also help with heat rash. Apply aloe vera gel to the affected area.
  • Neem: Combine neem powder with water to make a paste, apply to the rash for a few minutes, and wash off. Neem is very beneficial in the treatment of inflammation, infection, and fever.

Dehydration Solutions

  • Coconut Water: Rich in electrolytes, it helps rehydrate the body.
  • Watermelon: High water content and contains vitamins and minerals to keep you hydrated.
  • Herbal Teas: Teas like chamomile or peppermint can be consumed cold to keep you hydrated and cool. Try one of our many Tea Blends at Back to Earth.

Summertime is eagerly anticipated, and it’s important to stay safe while having fun. Remember to stay hydrated, seek shade, and wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the sun and heat during your exciting summer adventures!
